DE punctures the exoskeleton of insects, absorbing body fluids, which quickly causes lethal dehydration. Pyrethrum (ground petals of the African daisy) gradually immobilizes insects hastening the dehydration action of DE. Piperonyl butoxide (extracted from the common sassafras) enhances and prolongs the effectiveness of the product.
